No doubt about it, hair removal is a big business in the United States. Almost any size of town or city nowadays has a spa or hair salon that has a technician specializing in removing hair. There are many methods which are used today for this process. Laser hair removal is probably the newest trend for getting rid of unwanted body hair.

Besides the pain involved, the old-fashioned waxing method for hair removal results in no lasting side effects. The process can be done with minimal training and expertise. However, using a laser to remove hair is another matter entirely. Before consumers undergo hair removal with lasers, they should be aware of the possible negative effects this process can involve.

Just the word laser can invoke thoughts of danger. The idea of using lasers on the skin should raise caution in consumers. Your first consideration for laser hair removal is whether or not the person performing it has undergone sufficient training and is skilled enough with enough experience to remove the hair without danger. Unfortunately, there are laser kits which can be purchased without any licenses or experience required. Many times these kids find their way into hair salons where untrained technicians often begin practicing on one another before selling the service to patrons.

Some states require special certifications and licensing for the technicians that use lasers to remove hair. Before inquiring about the process at a local hair salon, first find out if your state requires this special licensing. And then request to see a copy of the salon’s license if one is required. If your state does not require a license for performing the services, consumers should be more wary when choosing the salon.

As with many things, one of the best ways to find a reputable technician to remove hair is by word-of-mouth. Check with your friends, family members, and coworkers if they might be able to suggest a business they have used for this process and are happy with. Otherwise, check your local Yellow Pages in your phone book and there should be numerous services advertising for hair removal. Begin by calling a few of these advertisers and requesting details on the process. Normally, you can tell by how the answers are given as to whether or not the technicians are experienced and competent in performing hair removal.

Also check with your city’s Better Business Bureau to find out whether or not there are any grievances or complaints filed against prospective technicians or establishments. Of course any business who has been in business for a number of years may have one or two grievances filed. But if there seems to be a pattern of ongoing complaints filed against the hair salon, and especially for their laser hair removal treatments, it may be best to move on to another prospective service provider.
